Symantec Security Scan Checks

The two scans can take a few minutes each to complete, depending upon processor speed and number of local disk files. To permit all tests to complete, answer ``yes'' if your firewall asks for temporary permission to download programs or to access ports.

Do not close the active window during the tests. To do so will terminate the running test processes.

When each scan is complete you will receive a detailed analysis of your results.

Exposure Check
Checks whether your computer allows unknown or unauthorized internet communications.

Vulnerability Check
Checks whether basic information about your computer, including your PC's network identity, is exposed to outside networks.

Trojan Horse Check
Checks whether your computer is safe from Trojan horses.

Virus Detection Check
Checks for known viruses, including newly identified top threats.

Antivirus Product Check
Checks whether your system protected by a known virus-protection product.

Virus Protection Update Check
Checks whether you're safe from the latest viruses, applicable when you have a virus-protection product installed.

Some scan tests require Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher with ActiveX and scripting enabled.

The Virus Detection provides an analysis of your results and offers suggestions for further action. It does not examine compressed archived files or fix infected files.
